After just 10 minutes against Robin Soderling, Bernard Tomic had dominated like no-one could have imagined. He raced to a 5-0 lead in the first set.

The young Australian did not let that lead slip and he claimed the first set 6-1. Now it remained to been seen if Tomic could build on that amazing opening set or would Soderling come storming back?

Soderling was the no. 5 seed and had reached the quarterfinals at the 2010 Wimbledon tournament. He had a tough five set match against Australia’s Lleyton Hewitt in the previous round.

Early in the second set Soderling took a medical time-out and indicated to his box that he felt dizzy.

Soderling did manage to perform a bit better in the second and third set but was not able to stop Tomic from recording the best win of his career. Tomic took the match 6-1, 6-4, 7-5.

Tomic will now play Xavier Malisse in the fourth round on Monday. Malisse leads the head-to-head 1-0 after defeating Tomic at the 2010 Queen’s event. He won 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.

It is the first time Tomic has reached the fourth round at a grand slam. His previous best effort was to reach the third round at the 2011 Australian Open. Last year at Wimbledon he lost in the first round.

Tomic reached the main draw at Wimbledon after coming through qualifying. His performance at Wimbledon will see him reach the top 100 in the ATP tour rankings. That will make him the top ranked Australian men’s player.
