The next Australian captain?
As the Fourth Ashes test limps into day four you cannot expect anything but a win for England and with that they keep hold of the Ashes.
Now the question has to be asked is it time for Ricky Ponting to move on? The team has been in decline over recent times and after losing the Ashes for the third time as captain maybe a new captain is what’s called for.
The problem with that is the most obvious replacement, Michael Clarke, has been struggling with the bat himself. Will the captaincy place more pressure on his shoulders? or will it inspire him to lift his game and start piling on the runs?
After Australia lost the second test in Adelaide there was a huge amount of support for a most unlikely return to test cricket for Shane Warne. It did not happen but could it?
Most likely no, but Shane Warne, despite his off field blunders could be what Australia needs. There really needs to be a dramatic change to a side that once ruled the cricket world. Now they are an embarrassment.
