Stosur Moves Into Miami Quarters
Australia’s most recent top ten tennis player Samantha Stosur continued her recent good form with a 6-1, 7-6(9) win over Jelena Jankovic. This end an eight-match winning streak for Jankovic and setup a quarter-final matchup against 2009 US Open champion Kim Clijsters.
Stosur had never taken a set from Jankovic in three previous career meetings.
Jankovic had defeated Stosur just last week with a 6-2 6-4 semi-final win at Indian Wells. Jankovic then went on to win the tournament defeating Caroline Wozniacki in the final.
Clijsters will be tough to beat and advance to the matchup with Stosur after a 6-4 6-0 fourth-round win against fourth-seeded titleholder Victoria Azarenka. Stosur is yet to win a set against Clijsters in their previous two meetings including in Miami in 2007.
