Socceroos Fight Hard for Away Win

November 14, 2009

In Asian Cup qualifying the Sooceroos played a man down for 75 minutes and were a goal down after 17 minutes. Things went bad for the Socceroos in Oman when a clumsy challenge by Rhys Williams gave away a penalty and saw him red carded.

The penalty that followed was at first saved by Mark Schwarzer but Khalifa Ayil followed up the save to poke home for a goal.

Luke Wilkshire pulled back a goal when he scored in the 43rd minute and then the come back was complete when Brett Emerton got on the end of a cross to drill the ball into the back of the net in the 82nd minute.

The away win sees Australia now at the top of the group with two matches to play. They are three clear of third placed Oman and one ahead of Kuwait who defeated Indonesia 2-1. The Socceroos play their next match against Kuwait in Kuwait City on January 6.
