Prince tennis racquet and tennis ballAustralia’s Sam Stosur was 0-5 when playing in WTA tournament finals going into the Japan Open. The good news was that she was playing an opponent who holds a 1-9 record in finals.

To make it even more likely that Stosur would claim her maiden WTA title was that she had won her last four of five match against her final opponent Francesca Schiavone.

After a fairly close set Stosur dominated the second to take the title 7-5, 6-1. Stosur won the first set after getting the first break of the match in the 12th game of the first set.

Now that Stosur has finally won a tournament I guess the next step is to win a top level tournament of even a Grand Slam singles. It would be great to see her hold the trophy aloft at the 2010 Australian Open.
