Podolski double sinks Poland at Euro 2008
Polish born Lukas Podolski has scored twice for the German team against his country of birth Poland. The match was the opening Group B match at EURO 2008.
The first goal was a regulation tap in following a good run down the right side of the field by Klose from which he delivered a cross to Podolski in the 20th minute.
Podolski’s second goal was a lot more spectacular. Klose once again provided the assist, although one he would not be proud of. Klose miskicked a shot at goal which popped up nicely for Podoski to sensationally volley into the back of the net. It was a spectacular strike which showed his class.
In the other match in Group B Croatia got past co-host Austria 1-0. The Croatian goal came from the penalty spot after just 4 minutes. Luka Modric calmy slotted home the penalty.
The Germans will face Croatia and Austria plays Poland on 12 June.
