Perth Wildcats Claim NBL Title Five

In what is a year of consolidation for the NBL the Perth Wildcats have defeated the Wollongong ahm Hawks 96-72 in the deciding Game Three of the National Basketball League season. The match was played at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Friday night

The 2010 title sees Perth became the first team in NBL history ever to win five titles. They first collected a title back in 1990 and followed that up in 1991, 1995 and 2000.

The fifth title sees Perth move ahead of the pack. Adelaide 36ers and the Melbourne Tigers have won four NBL titles. All of the other multiple championship winning teams have ceased to exist. The Canberra Cannons, Brisbane Bullets and Sydney Kings all hold three titles.

Kevin Lisch had a game-high 29 points for the Wildcats to make him the obvious choice for the Larry Sengstock Medal as the Grand Final Most Valuable Player. Damian Martin added 17 for Perth and Stephen Weigh 13.

None of the Wollongong players really got going and Glen Saville’s 13 was the top score for the visitors while Cameron Tragardh and Rhys Martin both have 12.

Perth had opened the grand final series when they won Game One 75-64 at Challenge Stadium in Perth last Friday night before a sell-out crowd of 4,497.

Wollongong forced the series to a decider after a 75-63 win in Game Two in front of a capacity home crowd of 5,786 at WIN Entertainment Centre.
