Parramatta Continue Amazing Run
Just 10 weeks ago the Parramatta Eels were looking like contenders for the wooden spoon. They only had the miserable Sydney Roosters below them on the NRL ladder. Since then they have made an amazing run at the NRL title.
Last week they knocked off the minor premiers, St George. This week they were up against the third placed Gold Coast Titans. My money was on the Eels as the Titans are not that good on the road.
As it panned out the Eels cruised to a win to setup a showdown with the Bulldogs. The Eels went into the halftime break up 13-2 following tries to Feleti Mateo and Ben Smith, capped off by a Jarryd Hayne field goal.
The Titans were not giving up without a fight and threw everything at the Eels and they almost scored in the 48th minute. Nathan Hindmarsh was the hero as he prevented Matthew White from scoring under the posts. Hindmarsh was able to dislodge the ball and save the try. This deflated the Titans and the Eels pushed on for the win.
Kevin Kingston helped seal the match with a try in the 60th minute after big prop Fuifui Moimoi got involved in a backline move. The icing was on the cake when centre Jonathan Wright stepped around prop Luke Bailey to score.
The win now sets up a blockbuster match against the Bulldogs. It should attract a huge crowd next weekend as both teams play for a grand final spot.
The final score was 27-2.
