NRL – two thrillers and a blow out
Saturday night in the NRL saw the Melbourne Storm blow away the injury struck Canterbury Bulldogs 46-0. Playing Melbourne on their home turf is hard enough at the best of times. When you are missing many of your top players you are asking for trouble. Canterbury found this out the hard way and as the scoreline suggests they were never in the match.
After the thrilling win by Brisbane over Parramatta fans were treated to two more nail biters on Saturday night. In one match the Penrith Panthers continued their move towards the top of the ladder with a golden point victory over the luckless Cowboys.
The Cowboys were playing at home and were hoping for something that has been hard to come by this season. A win! In the match against Penrith they did well to contest the full 80 minutes and take the match into golden point extra time. The Panthers had two field goal attempts in the first period by Jarrod Sammut. They were both shockers. In the second period he finally got one between the posts to claim victory…just. He slammed the shot into the right upright and luckily for Penrith it squeezed over for the win.
The other tight match came when Newcastle played host to the Warriors. The New Zealand team lost for the first time at home last week and made up for it with their first away win over the Newcastle team. The match was also a thriller with the Warriors getting up 18-16.
