Not Long Until NBA Playoffs
Here in Australia it is Good Friday and a public holiday. I took the opportunity to enjoy some NBA action live via my League Pass Broadband subscription. As it turned out my two favourite teams were in action.
First up I watched the Chicago Bulls host the 76ers. It was a close match until Chicago put together a 20-6 run in the third quarter. The Bulls are now just one win away from clinching a NBA Playoff spot. In today’s game they managed to win 113-99.
Tyrus Thomas and Ben Gordon led the way with 24 points as the Bulls notched up win no. 13 from their last 14 at home. The Bulls were perfect from the line shooting 19-19. Thomas knocked in 14 from the charity stripe.
For the 76ers they are spluttering into the NBA finals and would appear to be easy pickings for their first round opponents. Chicago on the other hand have some good form leading into the playoffs.
The other game I watched was the Sacramento Kings at home to the Houston Rockets. Like the Bulls it was a strong third quarter from the Rockets that setup the win. The Rockets took the match 115-98 to move to third spot in the Western Conference. In that conference the top eight have been decided, it is not a matter of sorting out the seeds.
Ron Artest scored 26 points as the Rockets moved into first place in the Southwest Division. They edged ahead of San Antonio with a 51-28 win/loss record. The Spurs the other day lost Manu Ginobili for the season and Tim Duncan is troubled by his sore knees so it will be interesting to see if they can take back first spot. As I am a Houston Rockets fan I hope not.
The NBA finals for the 2008-09 season tip off on April 18. Who is your tip for the NBA Champions.
