NBA – Who will be last to fall?
With the 2009-10 NBA season just over a week old it will be interesting to see who can open with the longest win streak. Some of the favourites to pick up this honor have already stumbled. The Lakers lost early, as did the Cleveland Cavaliers.
After having played six games it is the Boston Celtics who are looking likely to have the best season opening win streak. The only other unbeaten team is the Denver Nuggets who are 5-0.
The Timberwolves went close to ending the streak for the Celtics after a 90-92 loss at home on Wednesday night. This was the closest the Celtics came to losing in this new season. The previous smallest margin of victory was the six point win on the opening night away to Cleveland. Since then the Celtics have racked up some convincing wins. The most recent before the Timberwolves match was a 105-74 win over the 76ers.
Denver as I mentioned are 5-0 and lead the Western Conference early in the season. They have two tough games against 4-1 teams, both on the road. Next up is Miami on Friday night, followed up by Atlanta on Saturday. The road trip continues on the Tuesday and Wednesday with matches against the Bulls and then the Bucks. If the Nuggets get through all of those games without a loss there will be a huge match at home against the Lakers on Friday 13th.
The Celtics are at home against the Phoenix Suns in their next match on Friday, followed by an away match against the Nets. Then it is the Jazz at home on Wednesday, then the Hawks on Friday 13th.
Who will it be that gets the longest season opening win streak? I am tipping the Celtics. Leave your thoughts below.
