The Houston Rockets visited the LA Lakers on Sunday night. Both teams were coming off a loss. The Lakers were thumped by the Denver Nuggets, the Rockets lost to the Sacramento Kings.

Before the match Trevor Ariza was presented his NBA championship ring which he won as part of the Laker roster in 2008-09. Ariza’s new Houston Rocket teammates saw the ring and it was Aaron Brookes who said it inspired him. He led the Rockets with a career-high 33 points which included five 3-pointers.

Early in the match it looked as though the Lakers were going to coast to victory. Former Rocket Ron Artest scored eight points after five minutes and the Lakers were out to a 16-2 lead. The Rockets chipped away at the lead and by the first quarter break they had got the score to a more respectable 29-23.

Australian David Andersen came off the bench and also posted career-high points to give the Rockets a boost as they outscored the Lakers 29-25, 28-19 and 21-18 in the next three quarters. Andersen scored 19 points and pulled in 6 rebounds.

The Lakers had no answer to the hustle of the Rockets and went down 101-91. The loss leaves the Lakers in fifth on the Western Conference ladder with a 7-3 record while the Rockets are in sixth with 6-4.

Next on the Houston Rockets schedule is a match against Phoenix in Houston on Tuesday night.
