Manchester United Do a Liverpool
Manchester United has gone back to the top of the English Premier League after defeating Aston Villa 3-2. Just as Liverpool had done against Fulham, the red devils snatched the win with a dramatic injury-time winner.
Cristiano Ronaldo had put Manchester United in front with a goal in the 13th minute. This came from an indirect free-kick awarded after a backpass by James Milner was picked up by Aston Villa keeper Brad Friedel.
A headed goal by John Carew leveled the scores after 29 minutes.
Manchester United were on shaky ground as Gabriel Agbonlahor put Aston Villa in front with another headed goal in the 57th minute however that man Ronaldo had other ideas. He scored a great goal on the 80th minute. Ronaldo got the ball on the edge of the box and fired a low drive into the bottom corner to level the scores.
Now the match appeared to be heading for a draw before 17-year-old Federico Macheda put his name up in lights with a stunning injury time strike. He had come on as a substitute. Macheda, a former member of the Lazio academy turned onto a Ryan Giggs pass and unleashed a wicked curling shot that beat Brad Friedel.
Of course the crowd went wild! Manchester had snatched full points. Manchester United are now a point clear at the top of the EPL with 68 points from 30 matches. Liverpool is on 67 from 31 matches. Chelsea still has some hope with 64 points from 31 matches.
Next Saturday Liverpool play host to Blackburn Rovers while Manchester United travel to the Stadium of Light to face Sunderland. Looking at those two matches you would have to expect Man United to maintain their lead at the top of the EPL ladder.
