Liverpool moves closer to Champions League spot for next season
Following a 2-2 draw against Birmingham City, Liverpool has all but secured fourth place on the English Premier League ladder. The point gained from the draw moves Liverpool 9 points clear of their cross town rivals, Everton. With a vastly superior goal difference you would have to think Liverpool are safe.
The top two teams in the English Premier League receive a spot in the group stage of the Champions League, while third and fourth go into the qualifying stage.
Liverpool came from two goals down in the match against Birmingham. Goals came to Birmingham’s Mikael Forssell in the 33rd minute and Sebastian Larsson after 54 minutes. Peter Crouch got Liverpool back into the match with a goal in the 63rd minute.
Liverpool grabbed the draw following an own goal by Radhi Jaidi.
Liverpool now looks forward to the second leg match of the Champions League semifinal against Chelsea to be played next Wednesday. Liverpool need to score at Chelsea’s home ground to have any chance of advancing to the final in Moscow in May.
