Houston Rockets advance, at last…

May 2, 2009

It has been a long wait for Houston fans but the Rockets have made it into the second round of the NBA playoffs for the first time since 1997. They advance following the 92-76 game six win over Portland played in Houston.

Ron Artest scored 27 points and Yao Ming chipped in for 17 to go with 10 rebounds.

Yao was drafted by the Rockets in 2002 and in that time he had played in three losing first round series. It is a big moment for Yao to finally reach the second round.

Things could have been better if the Rockets won their final regular season match as they could of had the no. 2 seed in the Western Conference. The loss saw them slip to fifth. That now means they face the top seeded Los Angeles Lakers who advanced with a 4-1 win over the Utah Jazz.

The Rockets lost all four regular season matches against the Lakers so it will be a big ask to see them get past the Lakers. The series starts in Los Angeles on Monday.
