Dellacqua into third round, Stosur out
June 25, 2008
Two aussie females took to the Wimbledon courts on day three. Samantha Stosur was playing the no. 18 seed Nicole Vaidisova on court three and at the same time Casey Dellacqua was up against Pauline Parmentier of France.
For both girls it was not looking good after the first set. Stosur lost 6-2 however she came storming back in the second to record a 6-0 win. For Dellacqua is was almost a carbon copy. She dropped the first set 6-1.
Like Stosur she hit back in the second set to level the match. Both aussie girls looked as though they would go on and win their match. Stosur had a good lead in the third set however she let this slip and in the end lost to Vaidisova. The final score being 6-2 , 0-6, 6-4 to the 18th seed.
Dellacqua was able to maintain the momentum and she went on to win the match 1-6, 6-2, 6-3. This came on the back of her first round upset of Patty Schnyder.
For Stosur it was the one that got away and she would be really disappointed to exit Wimbledon at this stage. For Dellacqua she will now face Stosur’s conquerer in the third round. It is also a continuation of her good grand slam form in 2008. She reached the fourth round at the Australian Open and the third at Roland Garros.
