Wallabies Tough Out Win Over England

November 8, 2009

The Australian Wallabies have put behind them a tough tri-nations series and opened their Grand Slam tour with a hard fought 18-9 win over England at Twickenham.

Early on it looked as though an understrength England would get the better of the Wallabies after they went out to a 9-5 lead thanks to the boot of Jonny Wilkinson.

Australia’s five points in the first half came through a Will Genia try when he went over from close range.

In the second half it was an improved performance from the Wallabies. They blundered a few good scoring opportunities before Adam Ashley-Cooper scored a try he should not have. He was caught about 10 metres from the try line and with amazing strength carried his tacklers over the line to score. A few Matt Giteau penalties gave the Wallabies a much needed win.

Have they got what it takes to win the Grand Slam? Perhaps not as Ireland and Wales will be a lot tougher opposition.
