Ronnie Brewer signs with Chicago Bulls

July 20, 2010

Ronnie Brewer is to reunite with Carlos Boozer and Kyle Korver who played together at the Utah Jazz. Brewer was traded by the Jazz to the Memphis Grizzlies last season and suffered a hamstring injury after making the move. He is now fit and ready to go for his new team.

“We’re very happy to add a player of Ronnie’s ability to our team. He brings great versatility on both ends of the floor and will be an excellent addition to our backcourt,” said Chicago Bulls GM Gar Forman.

You can watch the press conference Brewer had after joining the Bulls.

Brewer is a second generation NBA player. His father Ron Brewer played for the Portland Trail Blazers after being selected as the 7th pick in the 1978 NBA Draft. He then went on to end his career in Chicago in 1986. He played for a total of six NBA teams.

Ronnie Brewer is looking forward to quickly building a team chemistry that will help the Bulls become a winning team and give the Miami Heat something to worry about.

What happened while I was away

July 16, 2010

I have just returned from a ten night cruise on the Pacific Jewel. While onboard I had limited internet access so was not able to post to this blog. Since my return I have been catching up with what has happened in the world of sport.

The big news was of course Spain winning the World Cup soccer, or was it LeBron James deciding to leave the Cavs and signup with the Miami Heat?

Spain defeated the Netherlands 1-0 in extra-time. I managed to watch some of the match on the ship and was glad to see Spain win. The Netherlands came so close to scoring when a shot by Arjen Robben was just deflected wide by the boot of the Spanish keeper Iker Casillas. As the teams battled it out in extra-time it was Andres Iniesta’s 116th-minute strike that saw Spain get the one goal that gave them the World Cup victory.

The big news in the NBA was of course the LeBron James decision to join Miami Heat and create the dream team of himself, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. He said the reason was that he wants to win championships. You can see the reasons why for yourself in the video below.

Mark Webber winning the Brittish Formula One grand prix was another big item. Webber was a bit annoyed with his team after they gave exclusive use of an updated front wing to Sebastian Vettel. Vettel took pole ahead of Webber however the Australian got the jump on his teammate at the start of the race and was never headed. The win moved Webber to third on the driver’s championship.

“I’ve always loved Silverstone,” said Mark. “I won at the track in Formula Ford, Formula 3000 and in Sportscars and to win there in F1 is the icing on the cake. The British Grand Prix is one of the most prestigious races on the calendar; every driver wants to win it and I’ve now got the trophy sitting on my mantelpiece.”

Another big event taking place right now is le Tour de France. I saw that Australia’s Cadel Evans had taken the leader’s yellow jersey only to see him drop off the pace in a later stage. It was revealed later that he had broken a bone in his elbow after a fall. Following stage 11 Evans was in 18th position 7 minutes 47 seconds behind race leader Andy Schleck.

The big news out of stage 11 was the disqualification of Mark Renshaw for headbutting Kiwi Julian Dean during a sprint finish.

Where Will LeBron James Play Next?

July 1, 2010

On 1 July we saw the highly anticipated start to the NBA free agency period. What everyone wants to know is what team will have the services of LeBron James for the 2010-2011 season. But lets also not forget there are other big name players who are on the free agents list.

LeBron James has already met with the New Jersey Nets and the New York Knicks. The Chicago Bulls are another team keen to have him join their roster. Just how long we are kept waiting is anyone’s guess.

Dwyane Wade is another big name up for grabs. It is reported that he met with the Chicago Bulls on Thursday.

I will be following with interest who ends up where over the coming weeks.

Lakers Win NBA Championship

June 23, 2010

It is a bit late to report this but for completeness here it is.

The Los Angeles Lakers won back-to-back NBA championships after defeating the Boston Celtics 83-79. With the win Kobe Bryant collected his fifth championship.

The Celtics started strong holding a 23-14 advantage after the first quarter, the next two quarters were tight but in the quarter that wins championships we saw the Lakers outscore the Celtics 30-22.

Bryant could only manage 6-24 shooting but still did enough with 23 points.

Ron Artest played a key role as he added 20 points, hitting two three-pointers, and five rebounds.

Lakers Hammer Celtics to Tie Series

June 16, 2010

The LA Lakers had to win or the NBA Championship was heading to Boston for the second time in three years.

The Lakers took control early and then cruised to a 89-67 victory to tie the series at 3-3. They opened with a 28-18 first quarter and followed that up with a 23-13 second quarter.

Kobe Bryant showed he wants another championship as he scored 26 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Been Busy Lately

June 12, 2010

I have been flatout the last few days so I have had no time to be writing for the blog. I did not even follow the NBA finals and only saw the score from game four as short time ago. It was of course a win for Boston to level the series.

It seems that the bench did the job for Boston, while for the Lakers Phil Jackson had to run with the starters and they just got too tired to compete. The final score was 96-89. The Celtics can take a step closer to the Championship if they can win game five at home on Sunday.

The big, big event to get started over night was of course the FIFA World Cup Football finals in South Africa. The home team was expected to be the first host country to lose an opening World Cup match. Much to the delight of the home fans it did not happen.

South Africa scored first when Siphiwe Tshabalala scored a brilliant goal in the 55th minute. A poor defensive lapse saw Mexico level the match when Rafael Marquez scored in the 79th minute. Right at the end South Africa had a chance to score the winner however a shot hit the post and bounced away.

In the other group A match it was an unimpressive 0-0 draw for France v Uruguay.

The reason I have been so busy is that I was competing in the Epic Traffic Systems giveaway. They were offering free website traffic courses. I am also watching the great free videos they provided.

Allen Runs Hot to Help Celtics Level Series

June 7, 2010

Ray Allen has scored 32 points to lead the Boston Celtics to victory in game two of the NBA finals. The series is now at 1-1 as the teams head over to Boston for game three in the best of seven series.

Allen scored 27 points in the first half and shot an NBA finals record for most 3-pointers in a game shooting 8 from 11 outside the arc.

Rajon Rondo scored 19 points, 10 assists, 12 rebounds and two steals to record a triple double on the night.

For the Lakers it was Pau Gasol who top scored with 25 points. Kobe Bryant had an off night scoring just 21 points recording 8-from-20 shooting.

Watch the game highlights below.

Artest Buzzer Beater Gives Lakers the Edge

May 28, 2010

Ron Artest has broken the hearts of Phoenix Suns fans by banking in a buzzer beating game winning shot in game five. The final score was 103-101.

Jason Richardson had tied the scores with 3.5 seconds when he banked in a front on 3-point shot.

If not for the game winning shot, Artest had a forgettable night. He was 2 for 9 from the field. He now goes down as a hero. The Lakers still have some work ahead of them to wrap up the series.

Kobe Bryant scored 30 points to lead the Lakers while Steve Nash scored 29 for the Suns. Derek Fisher scored 22 points and Gasol had 21 points and nine rebounds for the Lakers

Game 6 is Saturday night in Phoenix.
