Israel Folau To Play AFL

June 1, 2010

Brisbane Bronco’s star Israel Folau is following the lead of Karmichael Hunt and switching codes. He has signed a four year deal with the Greater Western Sydney AFL expansion team. It is believed that he will be paid $1 million per season.

21-year-old Folau will become one of the highest paid footballers in Australia. He has never played the game and is set to commence his AFL career in 2012 when the new team joins the competition.

There was no way the Brisbane Broncos could even come close to matching the offer made to Folau by the Greater Western Sydney team. The new team has AFL great Kevin Sheedy leading the way.

Hunt has returned to Australia after a stint playing Rugby Union in France. He is about to start playing aussie rules with a lower level team. It will be interesting to see how he handles the completely different game.

Geelong are the 2009 AFL premiers

September 26, 2009

In a match that has lived up to expectations the Geelong Cats have taken out the 2009 AFL premiership. This came after a hardfought match against the St. Kilda Saints. The Cats have now won their second title in three years after playing in their third straight grand final.

The Saints lead at the end of the first, second and third quarters however the Cats just edged the St. Kilda Saints 80-68. It was closer than the score suggests as the Cats scored as time expired.  99251 fans were on had at the Melbourne Cricket Ground to witness the match.

The Saints were behind by just six points with around a minute to play. If they could have got possession in the closing minute they still had a shot at the premiership. Instead the Cats took the ball up the other end to score the final goal of the match to take the title.

It was a match that had it all. The ball was at all times fiercly contested as play went from end to end throughout.

Paul Chapman won the Norm Smith medal which is awarded to the best on ground.
