The Arizona Cardinals have defeated the Atlanta Falcons 30-24 in the first of the Wild Card playoff games in the NFC. The win was the franchise’s first home playoff win since 1947 when the-then Chicago CardNFL footballinals beat Philadelphia to win the NFL championship.

Kurt Warner today got the scoring started with a 42-yard touchdown pass to Larry Fitzgerald. Atlanta fought back to score twice in the last 2:55 of the first half to take a 17-14 lead into the break.

With the towel waving crowd cheering them on the Cardinals then setup the win with two third quarter touchdowns. The first came from a fumble by Atlanta’s Matt Ryan which was returned 27 yards by Antrel Rolle after just 52 seconds in the second half. This put the Cardinals in the lead for good.

Another touchdown came with 2:54 to play in the third quarter as Tim Hightower ran four yards to setup a 28-17 scoreline. The previous play saw Warner complete a 14-yard pass on the third-and-3 play.

Ryan was sacked in the End Zone for a safety to take the score out to 30-17 before Ryan then passed for a touchdown to White to give the Falcons some hope with 4:19 on the clock.

The Cardinals did not let the Falcons have a shot at victory as they controlled the remainder of the match to secure a matchup against either The New York Giants or Carolina Panthers. The Cardinals lost to both teams earlier this season.
