Button Joins Hamilton at McLaren for 2010 F1 Season

November 19, 2009

Jenson Button will be driving for McLaren in 2010It seems in Formula One when you hear something won’t happen it will. Just recently I was reading that Jenson Button would not join Lewis Hamilton at McLaren. The next thing you know it has happened. The same thing happened with Giancarlo Fisichella and his move to Ferrari. Denials were followed by his move from Force India to Ferrari.

Now we know that Jenson Button the 2009 F1 drivers champion is indeed teaming up with the 2008 F1 drivers champion, Lewis Hamilton at the McLaren team. It marks the first time there will be a pairing of two British world champions since Graham Hill and Jim Clark at Lotus in 1968.

Button leaves a team that under different names he was part of since 2003.

Searching for a fresh challenge is why Button moved on from Brawn as he said on F1.com “So, although I won the world championship with Brawn GP last year, and I’ll never forget that, I was always adamant that I wanted to continue to set myself fresh challenges. So that’s why I’ve decided to join Vodafone McLaren Mercedes.”

With two F1 drivers champions in the camp it will be interesting to see how the team functions at McLaren in 2010 and beyond. Will the drivers get along or will we see bickering that has taken place in the past handicap the team. It should be an interesting season in 2010.

McLaren came on strong in the second half of the 2009 season. Can they carry that form over into the 2010 season?

What do you think of the partnership of Hamilton and Button? I know many British F1 fans would be excited with this announcement. I can’t wait for the season ahead.

This Time Schumacher is Back?
