BMW goes one-two in dramatic Canadian Grand Prix
BMW Sauber driver Robert Kubica has finally won a race for his team following an eventful Canadian Grand Prix. His teammate Nick Heidfeld picked up second and David Coulthard came in a surprise third for Red Bull.
You may be wondering what happened to Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen. Unfortunately for them both a pit lane collision ended their race. After refueling Raikkonen was heading out of pit lane. For some reason there was a red light. He stopped and Hamilton did not. The result was both drivers were out of the grand prix.
You might say Kubica was gifted the race by Hamilton but that is motor racing. You take the good with the bad. Just last year Kubica was involved in a horrific accident on the same track that he has now claimed victory.
The one-two result for BMW Sauber consolidates second spot in the constructor championship. The only trail Ferrari by three points.
Following his win Kubica now leads the drivers championship with 42 points ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa on 38. Reigning world champion Kimi Raikkonen is on 35.
Hamilton has a 10 grid spot penalty going into the next race following his pit lane accident.
The next race will be in France on 22 June.
