We are now just two days out from the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony. Looking out the window just before sunset it was once again looking quite pleasant. The photo below was taken just down the road from where I am staying on the second ring road.

Just twelve hours after the above photo was taken it is back to this.

It is anyones guess how things will be for the Olympics. If the night is calm is seems that the smog clings to the city like a scared child to its parent.

Last week when I awoke to a beautiful clear morning there had been a gentle breeze blowing in the evening. I assume it depends on which direction the breeze blows as to whether or not the skies will be clear. As I have mentioned before the mountains to the west of Beijing act as a barrier.

Right now here in Beijing there is a light breeze from the east, south east, so I would imagine that the day may turn out like yesterday where the blue sky emerged from the smog or is that fog? in the afternoon.

The forecast actually says the day starts with fog. We are expecting a top temperature of 33c which is about where it has been for much of my first week in Beijing.
