New Zealand has not troubled Australia in their opening match of the 2008 Rugby World Cup. The New Zealand attack was once again not up to the standard required to win a match at this level.

Australia 30
Tries: Inglis, Monaghan, Folau 2, Slater Goals: Thurston 4, Smith
New Zealand 6
Tries: Manu Goals: Matai

New Zealand coach was asked before the match what area would they like to improve. He said the defence needs work. This may be true but if the team struggles to score points they will not win too many games against the top teams.

Australia’s Joel Monaghan got his Australian test career off to a good start scoring a try on debut. He was second to score after Inglis opening the try scoring for Australia.

Next week Australia will play England in Melbourne while New Zealand takes on Papua New Guinea on the Gold Coast. After seeing Papua New Guinea play last night against England I would rule out a win for them over New Zealand.

In an earlier match today in Canberra the French were too good for Scotland. The final score was 36-18.

Scotland 18
Tries: Steel, Wilkes, Colton Goals: Brough 3
France 36
Tries: Taylor, Guisset 2, Wilson, Raguin, Moly Goals: Bosc 6
