soccer ballJust two weeks ago is was Uruguay’s Diego Forlan who led his team to the Europe League title. He scored a double for Atletico Madrid against Fulham.

In the UEFA Champions League final it was again a South American that scored a double to lead his team to victory. This time Diego Milito from Argentian was the star.

Milito scored first after 35 minutes to take Inter to a 1-0 lead against Bayern Munich. From a kick by the goalkeeper Milito headed down to a teammate who played a 1-2 back to Milito. As pressure came from the advancing keeper and the defence Milito coolly chipped the ball into the net.

In the second half Milito showed even more skill as he dribbled towards goal and beautifully fooled a defender with a neat cut-back. He then completed the job by hitting the back of the net with a well placed shot.

Bayern Munich had no answer and it was to be Inter’s night. They won their first European Club Championship since way back in 1965. The win saw Inter win a treble after completing the domestic double this season.

The win was a special one for Jose Mourinho as he became just the third man to lead two teams to the European Champions Clubs’ Cup.

Mourinho also announced after the match that he is leaving the club. It is rumored that he will move to Real Madrid.

“My Work here is done. I have made history with this club. I will find motivations in another big club. Playing against Barcelona in Spain? That would be a big challenge,” he told the Rai Sport after the game.
