Andy Roddick Wins Brisbane Title
Andy Roddick playing in his first tournament of the season and first in three months has won the Brisbane International title. He defeated defending champion Radek Stepanek 7-6(2), 7-6(7). His win could have been more convincing after leading 4-0 in the second set.
Stepanek recovered from the 4-0 deficit to lead 6-5 in the second set before Roddick held serve to take the match to a tie breaker. Again Roddick made it interesting in the breaker after letting Stepanek come back from 6-1 down. A Stepanek double-fault ended the match and saw Roddick win his first tournament since he won the Memphis tournament in February last year. He also defeated Stepanek in that final.
A knee injury ended Roddick’s season early last year and he last played at the Shanghai tournament in October 2009.
