cricket ball and stumps5-80 from Jimmie Anderson and 4-58 from Graham Onions has seen England plunder the Australian batting attack on day 2 of the third Ashes test. Australia started the day on 1 for 126 and were all out for 263.

Anderson could do no wrong as he took 5-13 from 38 balls and with the help of Onions saw Australia lose 7-77 before a late revival from the tail.

On a personal note Ricky Ponting became the highest run scorer for Australia as he moved past Allan Border’s 11,174 run milestone. After passing Border he went on to make 38 runs.

England came out and lost Cook with just two runs scored, it was a duck for Cook. Bopara went for 23 with the score on 60. Strauss is not out on 64 and the comeback player Ian Bell is 26. Bad light ended the day with England 2-116 which means they are 147 runs behind Australia.

Bell was lucky to survive a strong LBW appeal from the bowling of Mitchell Johnson. Everyone but the umpire thought it was out. That just shows how things are for Johnson. To make matters worse Bell hit Johnson for four just a few balls later.

England will be looking to tighten the screws on Australia in day 3 as they look to make the most of their 1-0 lead in the Ashes series.
