No matter who you root for in the NBA playoff series between the Bulls and the Celtics you have gotta say it is thrilling basketball. The Bulls and Celtics went into overtime for the third time, making this the first postseason series in NBA history to have three OT games. That’s three from five games.
Not only was the game decided in OT, it right down to the wire. The Bulls ran a great play with just a few seconds left in OT to give Brad Miller a clear run to the basket. The big man should have gone for the dunk but he chose to lay it up and in the process was clobbered across the head by Rajon Rondo. The result was he missed badly on the layup. After picking his teeth up from the floor and cleaning up the blood, Miller stood at the foul line with his team relying on him to sink both free throws.
As the building rumbled due to the Boston crowd going off, Miller took his first shot. He missed badly. The look on Ben Gordon’s face said it all. Miller now had to miss the second and hope his team got the offensive rebound. He failed to even hit the rim and with that miss there went game five to the Celtics. The final score was 106-104.
The fact that the Celtics even got the match to OT was impressive. Kevin Garnett was on the bench in his street clothes and Ray Allen fouled out with 5:27 left in regulation. After Allen left the game it was the MVP of last year’s NBA finals, Paul Pierce who stepped up to carry the Celtics. He hit the jumper to tie the game after the Celtics came back from 11 down early in the fourth quarter. Pierce also knocked three more buckets in the final 77 seconds of overtime.
Rajon Rondo scored 28 points and dished out 11 assists to outplay Derrick Rose. Ben Gordon starred again for the Bulls with 26 despite going into the game with talk about a suspect hamstring.
“Paul Pierce was unbelievable,” Noah said. “Guys are hitting crazy shot after crazy shot. It’s all about who’s going to make that shot at the end of the game. We had our chances, and that’s what makes it so tough. But we’ll be back: I still feel that we can win the series.”
The series continues with game five in Chicago on Thursday.

Lakers send Utah on summer break

As expected the Los Angeles Lakers have moved into the second round of the NBA playoffs. This comes after they completed a 4-1 series win over the Utah Jazz. The Lakers won game 5 107-96.
The teams were level on 26 after one quarter at the Lakers home stadium. It was a 30-17 second quarter that setup the win. The Lakers pushed their lead out further with a 26-20 third quarter. They then cruised to the win allowing Utah to outscore them in the four quarter by 33-25. It was 82-63 at the start of the final quarter but the Lakers let this lead drop to six at one stage.
Once again Kobe Bryant led the way scoring 31 points and Lamar Odom added 26 points and 15 rebounds.
The Lakers will meet the winners of the Houston-Portland series which currently sees the Rockets ahead 3-1. The teams meet in Portland on Tuesday night.
Houston grab key win in game 4

The Houston Rockets had to come back from a six-point deficit at the start of the fourth quarter to win game four of their series against Portland. It was 70-64 to the visiting Trail Blazers going into the final quarter.
Brandon Roy was fantastic for much of the game but he had an offensive foul called on him as he went to the basket late in the match. He scored 31 for the night. This was not enough as his team fell short by one with the final score 89-88.
Second effort points was the key for Houston. They grabbed 16 offensive rebounds to 9 and from two of those Shane Battier sank some big three-pointers in the fourth quarter.
Houston made it closer than it could have been as they missed several free throws in the closing seconds. Yao scored 21 points for the Rockets, Scola 17.
The series returns to Portland on Tuesday.
This match was decided by just a single point. This followed the double overtime win by Chicago over the Celtics. To make it a great day for close finishes Orlando snatched a 84-81 win over the 76ers a Turkoglu sank a three-pointer to win the game with seconds on the clock. The series in now 2-2 with the next match in Orlando on Tuesday.
In case you missed the earlier post about Cleveland, they wrapped up their series with a 99-78 win over Detroit. The first quarter was close but then the Cavs powered away to sweep the Pistons.
Cleveland Cavs Advance to Round Two

As expected the Cleveland Cavaliers advanced to round two of the NBA playoffs after their 99-78 win over Detroit.
The Pistons were only to match the Cavs for one quarter as they held a one point lead when 27-26 after the first quarter.
A 25-15 second quarter from the Cavs setup the win. It was LeBron James again that did all the damage. He had 36 points for the match. Maurice Williams provided good backup with 24 points.
For the Pistons Antonio McDyess scored 26 points to lead his team in the scoring. Will Bynum added 22 but that was not enough to match the Cavs who swept the series.
The Cavs now have to wait it out for the the result from the Atlanta-Miami series.
Bulls Battle for Game 4 Win

Derrick Rose had a shot to win game four as time wound down. His high looping running shot missed and the game went into overtime. This time the Celtics shot for the win but they missed. Double OT was the result.
After the thumping the Bulls received at the hands of the Celtics in game three they were keen to make amends in front of their home fans. Unlike game three the first quarter was a tight affair. The Celtics had gone out to a seven point lead however the Bulls fought back to end the first quarter down 18-19.
The second quarter saw Chicago go out to a seven point lead before this time the Celtics fought back to go into the half-time break up by one point. The score was 46-45.
No team was able to get away in the third quarter but a late burst by Paul Pierce saw Boston go from 63-65 to 70-65 to end the quarter.
In the fourth the Bulls bridged the gap to end regulation time locked at 96. Rose at this stage had scored 23 points.
In the first period of ovetime Boston jumped to a five point lead. The Bulls fought back and a tough 3pt shot from Gordon levelled the scores at 110. Boston had 4.5 seconds to win the match but a Rondo jumper missed and the Bulls lived again.
In the second overtime period it was the Bulls who took the lead. They scored the first four points. With 35 seconds left to play the Bulls were up 117-112. Boston managed to get to within one point after Pierce sunk a 3pt shot with 19.2 seconds to play. The score was 119-118. A pair of free throws were converted by Salmons and the match was over.
The Bulls won 121-118 to level the series. The big three for Boston, Pierce, Rondo and Allen scored 29, 25 and 28 respectively. For the Bulls Rose top the scoring with 23. Gordon had 22 and Salmons 20.

Three Wins From Four F1 GPs For Button

Jenson Button continued the amazing run for the Brawn GP team. He used a great first lap to get into a position to win in Bahrain. He got past his biggest threat in Sebastian Vettel on the outside at turn one. This was the key moment in the race.
Lewis Hamilton helped Button get away early in the race as he slowed Vettel. The Red Bull driver managed to fight his way into second place. Jarno Trulli was dissapointed that he could not convert his pole position into a win but would still have to be happy to take third.
Hamilton took fourth place. He said the Brawn GP car and the Red Bull car were just too fast in the high-speed corners. He was happy the team had made some progress but says there is still some ground to gain before he can challenge for even a podium spot.
Button’s team-mate Rubens Barrichello was in 5th. He said he lost a lot of time behind Piquet after his first pit stop and that pretty much ruined his race.
Kimi Raikkonen got the first points for the season for Ferrari after he took 6th position. He said “in theory, the new package we will have in Barcelona should see us make a good step forward.
Timo Glock took seventh spot and Fernando Alonso took the last of the points in eighth.
Mark Webber did well early on to move up several positions from 18th but then he was held up behind a car with KERS and that was the end of things for him. He completed the race in 11th.
The results from the Bahrain Formula One Grand Prix sees Brawn GP leading the constructors championship. They are way out in front on 50, RBR are second with 27.5 and Toyota third with 26.5.
The next F1 GP will take place on May 10 at the Barcelona track.
Matthew Stafford Goes No.1 in NFL Draft

This weekend it is draft time in the NFL. The longtime losers in the NFL, Detroit Lions have put there faith in the hands of no. 1 draft pick Matthew Stafford from Georgia. Now they need some quality players to help build a team around the new quarterback.
Stafford has already signed a six-year contract, worth $72 million.
The no. 2 pick went to the St. Louis Rams, they selected Jason Smith out of Baylor. The Chiefs selected Tyson Jackson at 3, Aaron Curry was selected no. 4 by the Seahawks. No. 5 was Mark Sanchez who is a QB. He was selected by the Jets.
Rounding out the top ten is at 6 Andre Smith (Bengals), 7 Darrius Heyward-Bey (Raiders), 8 Eugene Monroe (Jaguars), 9 B.J. Raji (Packers) and 10 Michael Crabtree (49ers).
Now the wait is on for the start of the NFL season which comes in September.
